Good intentions

Sometimes we try so hard to deposit knowledge into our children, that if given the ability to open their minds to insert such knowledge we’ll happily jump at it. But alas, such an act is humanly impossible, and can only be supernaturally achieved (Luke 1:37).

Opened mind

When praying for the Ephesian church, the apostle Paul asks that the spirit of wisdom and the revelation in the knowledge of Christ be given to them. This is so that they may understand who they are and what they have in Christ (Ephesians 1:17-19).

In today’s scripture, Jesus opened the minds of his disciples to understand the scriptures written about Him. This removed their fears and confusion.

Similarly, our children should not only be encouraged to spend time with scriptures, but to also build a strong relationship with the Holy Spirit. The Holy Spirit, our Helper and Guide, will make the understanding and application of scriptures easy for them (John 14:16) (John 16:13).

When our children understand scriptures, through the guidance of the Holy Spirit, they will be able to rightly apply it in their daily living. This should remove fears and confusion from their lives, and help them resist sin (Psalm 119:11).

What next?

We must consciously guard what goes into our children’s minds, and constantly pray for a renewal of their minds (Romans 12:2).

This can be simple measures like; watching TV programmes or movies with them, vetting any book given to them, and discussing their school activities or lessons with them. This way we can ensure that any ungodly content are promptly ejected.

Prayer Points

1. Thank you God for the gift of the Holy Spirit (Acts 2:38)

2.Holy Spirit help me to build a solid relationship with you that I may effectively model it to my children

3. Holy Spirit please renew the minds of my children that they may be conformed to your will and ways
