“And you He made alive, who were dead in trespasses and sins” – Ephesians 2:1 NKJV
True meaning
Easter celebration is not about bunnies, chicks, eggs, lamb, chocolate or the arguably mouthwatering hot cross buns. It is about our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ. He came to earth to die for our sins, and to reconcile us to God.
Joy of life
Jesus is alive forevermore and has freely given us eternal life. Our response to being made alive was our acceptance of Jesus into our lives and our conscious decision to abide by His words, through the help of His Holy Spirit.
It is physically impossible to bring back the dead. But, God restored us from spiritual death, and has given us eternal life; through Jesus. We have been made alive through Jesus’ death and resurrection.
Easter is a season of remembrance. It is a time to reflect on and appreciate our being made alive, through Jesus’ sacrifice on the cross, despite our deserving of death. Nevertheless, our remembrance should not be seasonal but a daily decision to live for Christ (Romans 12:1).
Today’s scripture speaks about the death sin brings. Jesus is the resurrection and life (John 11:25). So, as followers of Christ, we should be conscious of living holy lives, thereby inspiring our children to flee from sin. This way, they will be able to live life abundantly (John 10:10).
What next?
This Easter, we must be careful to ensure that our children do not associate the celebration with pagan practices.
We must always be intentional about having conversations with our children before the different Christian holidays, about their true meaning. This way, we equip them with the knowledge of the truth and strengthen their confidence to stand for it.

1. Father God, thank you for the gift of life you have given us, through Jesus’ sacrifice on the cross
2. Holy Spirit, help us to constantly be reminded of the sacrifice of Jesus, that we may lead lives that glorify God (Matthew 5:16)
3. Holy Spirit, help our children to come to know you for themselves, at an early age, that they may live life abundantly (John 10:10)
