“I am the vine, you are the branches. He who abides in Me, and I in him, bears much fruit; for without Me you can do nothing. – John 15:5 NKJV
Power source
Some appliances, like kettles, need to be plugged in to function. Other gadgets, like mobile phones, once charged and disconnected from the power source, can still function. Nevertheless, they eventually run flat and become useless, unless their batteries get recharged.
Staying connected
Fruits can only grow on branches that are still connected to the vine. We and our children are like branches. But who is the vine?
Today’s scripture shows us that Jesus is our vine; akin to our power source. Thus, with Him we bear MUCH fruit, but without Him we are nothing.
A branch that is disconnected from its vine will eventually wither off on the ground. Thus, if we disconnect ourselves from God, we and our children will be equally affected. We must remain connected to Jesus if we are to excel and live fulfilling lives.
We stay connected with God, by being in constant communion with Him. God has made it so easy for us, that even our thoughts are heard by Him (Psalm 139:2). Also, in our weakness, not knowing how to pray to God, His Spirit in us intercedes for us (Romans 8:26).
What next?
Our actions are often mirrored by our children. Therefore, we must daily seek to walk in Christ Jesus, and be rooted and built up in Him (Colossians 2:6 -7).
When we diligently seek God and live out our faith, our children will also be challenged to do the same. This guarantees that their lives will be fruitful, reflecting the glory of God (Matthew 5:16).
Prayer Points
1. Lord Jesus, thank you for helping me to stay connected with you through your Holy Spirit in me (John 16:7)
2. Holy Spirit, thank you for your help in raising a godly generation that truly desires and seeks you (Philippians 2:13)
3. Holy Spirit, help me to continue to be established in the faith (Colossians 2:7), always growing in you and bringing encouragement to my children.
