“Would not God search this out? For He knows the secrets of the heart.” – Psalm 44:21 NKJV

Hidden secrets

As a child, there may have been situations where we wished that our parents understood exactly how we were feeling. We may have wanted to express what was on our heart, but found it hard to trust our parents with such information.

Childhood challenges

Children go through a lot of challenges. As parents or guardians, having grown out of that age a long time ago, we might find it difficult to relate.

Today’s scripture explains that God is able to find out the secrets that could be in the hearts of our children. Some of these secrets may never be voiced out for fear of rejection or condemnation.

Therefore, we must learn to build an open environment in our homes. Our children should feel safe and comfortable sharing some of their deepest fears and worries. This could help us gain insight into some of the secrets of their hearts.

However, we cannot always be there for our children. So, the greatest legacy we can leave for them is a solid relationship with Jesus. He fully understands what our children are going through and is always available to help them out of any situation (Hebrews 4:15) (Psalm 46:1).

What Next?

By spending more quality time with our children, we show them that they are loved and valued by us. In their relaxed and happy state, they could feel more confident sharing some secrets of their heart with us.

Nevertheless, we will still need to ask God for insight and divine wisdom to address the secrets in the hearts of our children. This comes from intentionally seeking God (Jeremiah 33:3).
